As Elon students, we tend to push ourselves beyond our limits to keep up with schoolwork, clubs, and our social lives. We always manage how to get it done, but not always in the most healthy way. Below are some tips to maintain good health and practice self care while accomplishing everything on your to-do list.

Sleep

It’s often every college student’s greatest struggle, but it’s so, so important. Lack of sleep makes it harder to focus and weakens the immune system.

Moisturize!

Though Elon has only seen a couple days of real cold weather, I can already start to feel cuts on my hands from the dryness, which can be distracting and uncomfortable when doing work and taking tests.

When we’re stressed, we tend to crave fatty foods full of complex carbohydrates. It’s better to fill your body with whole grains, protein, and veggies to propel your mind and body.

Turn Your Phone Off

Although most computers now have text messaging, turning off your phone while studying will avoid distractions like Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. Better yet, leave your phone in your dorm or apartment and head to the library.

Workout

Even twenty minutes on the elliptical can boost your energy levels and release endorphins. It’s also a great way to destress in the midst of studying.

To-Do Lists

Crafting a to-do list is a great way to stay on track and not forget any tasks. After I make mine, I like to estimate the amount of time each task will take so I know how to manage my schedule wisely.

Break Time

At the end of a long day of studying, I like to wind down by watching an episode (or two) on Netflix before I go to bed. Consider an activity that helps you escape from school, such as reading a book or listening to a podcast.
