CoverGirl has always been known for embracing diversity when it comes to their spokespeople. Between Ellen Degeneres, Queen Latifah, and more, the brand has showcased women of all races, sexualities, shape, and size. Now, they’re expanding that to include males, starting with their first CoverBoy, James Charles.
James is known mostly for his huge Instagram following. A seventeen-year-old makeup artist from New York, James will appear in CoverGirl ads for their new mascara “So Lashy”. Though James only began doing makeup a year ago, his talent is obvious and unable to be ignored. James has racked up over 400,000 followers on Instagram to date, and creates amazing makeup looks ranging from the more surreal and out-there to looks more classically beautiful.
CoverGirl explained their choice for the campaign by releasing this statement: “All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful,” read the statement. “James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to anyone who might have been afraid to do the same.”
